We have had sickness in our family for almost a solid week now. Tuesday, Baylee started throwing up and having diarrhea, so I kept her out of school. She only threw up twice but kept up the diarrhea for days. I sent her back to school Wednesday because she said she was feeling better, but after lunch I got a call from the school saying she wanted to come home because she felt like she was going to throw up. So I got her and she acted alright for the rest of the day, but later that night she threw up again, so I kept her home Thursday. About mid-day she starts complaining about her throat hurting, so I decided to just make an appointment with the doctor. I took her in Friday morning and she tested positive for strep. The doctor also told me that she probably had some kind of virus first because of the diarrhea. She said you can throw up because of strep but diarrhea is usually not a symptom. She had also mentioned that rotavirus was going around really bad.
Friday afternoon, Jacob started running a fever. So I over-reacted a little and rushed him over to PM Pediatrics because I was sure he had strep. Well, he didn't but he had and ear infection and major congestion, but it was sort of a wasted trip. It totally could have waited until Monday.
Then Saturday morning about 3 am, Ryan starts throwing up and having diarrhea. All day Saturday he threw up everything, even water. I called the doctors office just to make sure I knew what the proper things to do for him were and to make sure I would know if he was getting dehydrated.
By Sunday morning, he hadn't thrown up in 12 hours, so we decided to go to church. We put Baylee and Jacob in their classes, but kept Ryan with us during the service. Once church was over and we were on our way home, Jacob starts throwing up. We finally get home and he dry heaves a little more and then takes his nap. Once he woke up he had horrible diarrhea, but then after that he has acted fine. He's still had some diarrhea, but other than that he's acting like his normal self. Today the are doing better. Baylee went back to school and the boys appetite has not come back fully, but they are getting there. They are acting like their normal selves. I am convinced now that they all had the rotavirus, seeing as Robb and I never got it.
Coincidentally, Sunday was my birthday, I turned 28. So I spent my birthday weekend taking care of children and cleaning up puke. It was very glamorous, LOL. It just made me reflect a lot on how things change when you get older. I was an only child, so my birthday's were always something special. But it's funny now, at the ripe old age of 28, how its not so special anymore. No parties, no balloons, presents or cards, just poop and puke. :D Robb's mom did feel bad that I had to spend my birthday weekend like that, so on Saturday she brought me a cake, birthday money, and 3 different kinds of Lysol, lol. She is such a sweet person. Robb and I have decided to just celebrate both our birthdays on his birthday (Feb. 18) and take us and the kids to Pravinos. I'll be looking forward to that. :)
