So... this will be the short version of Delaney's birth story. The actual labor was pretty long and began the day before on October 6th. I had just been to see my midwife and things were going along quite well: no blood pressure issues, 2 cm, etc. Pretty standard stuff for 38 weeks. After my visit I picked up Jacob from school and went home. At that point I was having contractions, but they weren't strong at all and not lasting long, but coming pretty regularly. They were no big deal, so when Robb got home from work, we went to Earthfare to eat and then to babies r us to buy a few last things for the baby that we needed. I continued to have these same contractions all night and was finally able to go to sleep about 2 am and then woke up about 6 am.
After I had been up for a couple of hours, I started to wonder if I had dilated anymore and if I was really in labor. After talking to my friend/midwife, Michelle, I decided to drive over to her house and get her to check me. So at about 10:30 I was still 2cm but I had progressed to about 50% effaced. So I had been doing work, just not on the dilation. I hung out at Michelle's until after noon and then packed up the kids to go home because the contractions were getting worse. I called Robb on my way home and after having to put him on hold while I had a contraction, he decided to make his way home too. By about 3:30 I was exhausted and breaking down. I was telling Robb that I just wanted to go to the hospital so they could give me an epidural and I could rest. I'm not sure why I was wanting to go to the hospital so bad. The only conclusion I could draw was that this pregnancy had been horrible emotionally, filled with Bo's death, Robb's vasectomy, and hard decisions about Ryan. I just wanted the pain of everything to be over. Seeing that he had to do something, Robb decided to go ahead and call Debi and Michelle to have them come over. Debi arrived first at about 5:30, checked me, and I was 100% effaced and 5 cm. I was really in labor and I would be holding my baby very soon!
I found comfort in Debi and Michelle being there and no longer desired to go to the hospital. I labored hard for the next 3 hours. At 8:25pm, Delaney Jane was born, completely caught by her daddy. She weighed 6 lbs 14 oz and was 20 1/4 inches long. She has that Ellis look and is beautiful.
So it's the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Only God knows what the next chapter will be filled with, I am excited to see. My life story is whatever God wants it to be. I am constantly humbled by His power, so we'll see what's next!
