Back at it...again!

Ok, so I haven't blogged in a while and I am very inconsistent with it, but I am going to try to do better.  Most of the time My thoughts go on facebook or are kept to myself.  I really think it will be good for me to start sharing here again, so here it goes!

There has been a post circulating on facebook about a pastor of a church who dresses himself up as a homeless man, enters his church and got the cold shoulder from most of the congregation and got asked to move from the front row to the back of the church by the usher. This post isn't completely true.  Whether it is true or false doesn't ultimately matter to what I am writing about today. Here is the link to the post.

An acquaintance of mine on facebook posted the above mentioned post along with her own comments, "This is the exact reason I don't go to church, I know too many "Christians" that are like this & its such a shame".   Man, that totally made my heart stop and break a little! I am upset that she has felt this way because those of us who take on the name of Christ should not make others feel like this.  Now granted we cannot control the way people feel about us all the time, but our behavior should be an overflow of our heart.  We also need to be aware that when we put on His Name, we are under the microscope. Not saying it's right, but it's the harsh reality. We were given the command to love God and love people. We should strive to do this in all situations and circumstances.

One reason why I think Christians leave a bad taste in peoples mouths is because we Can Come Across As hypocrites and judgemental At Times. "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?" Matthew 7:3   Speaking of the homeless man in the post, we often take the Easy Way out and Say they are just going to spend any money you give them on drugs or alcohol and the reason they are homeless is by their choice.  Maybe so, do they need help any less?  Do they deserve less because of that?  Honestly, No Matter How Awesome At Life We Are, None Of Us Deserve The Gift That God Gave To Us, His Son. We all make poor choices and some of us have experienced God, our healer and salvation, first hand, and some have not.  It's our job to introduce God to the world and represent Him properly.

We all need God's grace and mercy. The homeless and the housed, the young and the old, the Christian and the non believer.  The hypocrite that likes to point out everyone else's flaws, yep, he needs grace and mercy too.  I pray that I Don't Ever Come Across As a "hypocrite" and that people see Christ's love through me.  I pray that people see that being a Christian does not mean being perfect. I pray that we as a body of believers can truly love one another without hesitation and be real with our struggles to bring Glory to Jesus' name. We all drop the ball in life.  A little grace, mercy, and understanding can go a long way.
