THM: But wait! I've got good reasons not to try this!

There are so many reasons that people are hesitant to start Trim Healthy Mama.  Some of these have to do with money, but mostly time.  We live in a face paced world where no one has time to do anything!  We are shuffling around from here to there and back again and as a result a lot of things fall through the cracks, one of them being our health.  As a momma of 5 kids ranging in age from 2 to 11, I certainly love taking short cuts and I love easy!  But being on a journey to eat nutritious foods that began long before I was introduced to THM, I learned that what is best is not always easy! We have a high calling to take care of our families, and that also includes OURSELVES. This takes time and preparation on our parts, and we must be up for the task.

So back to the topic at hand, I am going to talk about the top 4 reasons people resist Trim Healthy Mama.  FYI, I didn't take a poll or anything, this comes from things I have heard in person and read on the internet.  If you have another good reason, please get it to me and I might address it in another post!

# 1:  THE BOOK IS SO LONG! I DON'T HAVE TIME TO READ ALL THAT! 640 PAGES, REALLY??
First of all, yes you do have time to read the book!  We all choose in life what things we place as our priorities, and if being a healthy person is 'really' important to you, then you will make time to read the book!  The book is long, but to get started on the plan does not require you to read the whole book. The first 1/3 of the book is explaining how it works, why it works, and how to work it, the second 1/3 of the book are the RECIPES, and the last 1/3 is special little place that can be read well after you've gotten started and at a relaxed pace.  So....read the first third, pick out a recipe and get to it.  Just try it! Jump on in and take it one day at a time, heck, one meal at a time!  It's a lifestyle change and a process, not a "I must know everything about it before I can start so I can get it perfect".  The goal here is not perfection but getting healthy and trim. You're not going to loose 30lbs overnight, it's not a crazy fad diet!

# 2:  $35 FOR A BOOK?! IS IT COVERED IN GOLD?! THAT'S WAY OUT OF MY BUDGET FOR A BOOK!
Okay.... Did I mention it is 640 pages? Did I mention that the book is filled with recipes? Both yes.... well here is some more info!  The authors are Moms of 6 and 7 kids and they spent 5 years doing this book!  They spent a long time making a GREAT book that reads very easily not like an instruction manual.  Let's get real for a second... I have spent more than $35 on protein shakes, slim fast, assorted pills to help speed up my metabolism, cut my fat, cleanse my colon, etc. LOL  Seriously, what is your health worth?  Is it worth $35? I think so!  And it's totally okay if it's not in the budget, I had to wait to get mine! But in the meantime, read as much as you can online about it (Gwen's Nest Blog is a good one) and check out the Trim Healthy Mamas Pinterest page! It's all organized and if you look hard enough, you might see a pattern in the recipes.  However, nothing replaces that book, it's so essential!!

#3: LOOKS LIKE THEY USE SOME SPECIALTY ITEMS THAT I DON'T USUALLY BUY, I CAN'T AFFORD ANYTHING ELSE IN MY GROCERY BUDGET.
Yes, there are some specialty items that make the plan easier, but by no means are they required!  I did the first two weeks with the bear minimum (maybe 1 specialty item) and I survived, and lost 5lbs to boot. Once I got a few more of the 'special' items, I figured out that I didn't use a large amount in the dishes I made and they will last me a very long time!

#4:  LOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE TO COOK A LOT! I'M JUST NOT A SUSIE HOMEMAKER!
That's okay too!  The book will push you a little out of your comfort zone, and that is a good thing, because change never happens in your comfy place!  Once again, I do not spend all day in the kitchen! I usually spend a lot of my time in the kitchen in the evenings, preparing dinner and then again later preparing for the next day.  Lets say I make chili for dinner, there is always enough for me to feed my whole family of 7 and for Robb and I both to have lunch the next day!  Put it in a little container and there you go, lunch is done!  Or say you didn't have enough dinner left over to make a lunch... just grab a few pieces of Ezekiel bread, some lunch meat, a laughing cow cheese, and a little salad on the side, and you have a lunch!  How about this for breakfast.... overnight oatmeal: takes less than 5 minutes to prepare (no cooking involved just combining ingredients), put it in a mason jar and let it sit overnight, then in the morning before you rush out the door, grab it out the frig and microwave it for 1 minute! Also, it really doesn't take that long to scramble up some eggs in butter and grab some previously cooked bacon or sausage either.  You can make it as involved as you want!

So I've covered some reasons, but I think the main underlying reason for not starting something new is fear.  Fear of failure, fear of it actually working, fear of it being too hard!  Don't be afraid friends, be courageous!

I can do all things through Him who gives me strength - Phil 4:13
