Breaking the Food Obsession

First off, before I get deeper into this post, that my previous post about politics is not going to be the norm for my entire blog site. I tend to get off on a tangent sometimes, but believe me, I will be posting more things about the family then current issues like politics.

Today, I am going to talk about my new years resolution (the main one anyway, I have so many). I am trying to loose 30 pounds before my sister in laws wedding in June. So this past Monday, I have started my diet. I am drinking slim fast and trying to eat more often and healthier foods. I asked Robb if he wanted to do the diet with me, he said yes (because he wants to support me), but I could tell that he really didn't want to. It's ok though, maybe I can get him motivated to loose weight and exercise. We both are in dire need of a lifestyle change and I think that is the saddest part of this diet for me. Robb and I are food lovers. Our lives revolve around the next meal. So now, I am trying to break the habitual food thoughts and look at food as a means to sustain life.

I am also trying to integrate some regular physical activity into our lives. I have found out that to walk to the beginning of our road and then back is one mile. And one good mile too, full of hills both ways. So I know that I will be utilizing that resource whenever I can.

All of my resolutions stem from one thing. I began taking a 9 week effective parenting class before Christmas. It's main premise so far is creating a Christ centered home and positive role modeling. I do not want my kids lives to revolve around food. That is the example that I am setting for them and eventually it will ring true for them unless we change. Baylee has already started asking after dinner every night, what we are having for dessert. I have help create that, with a little help from her cousin who is obsessed with sweets. But with that being said, it brings me to another quick topic. It is hard enough to get your kids to want to make healthy choices regarding food when there are so many bad, unhealthy things to eat. But on top of that, Baylee has a cousin that is a less than healthy eater and Baylee is influenced by that. So when we are all together and her cousin is getting something entirely different because she doesn't like what has been cooked, Baylee wants what her cousin has. The dynamics of dinner time at my home are as follows: You eat what has been cooked or you don't eat. I am not a short order cook, and I will not make 3 different things. I will try my best to fix something that everyone enjoys (and I usually do), as long as everyone keeps an open mind about it.

So there it is, everything that's going on surrounding the diet or should I say 'lifestyle change'. I will be writing again soon because I have lots to still talk about.
